DELWARA, ‘Town of Gods’

Delwara, which is nestled by the Aravalli Range on all sides, about 25km North east of Lake city Udaipur. It’s a peaceful place dotted with charming Devigarh Haveli and rustic mostly white painted houses With having a history backing upto Mauryan age years, &  on having conversation with a religious scholar and also doing some research on web this place and few km away the place called Nagda were the capital of this region and thousands of  Jain temples were built here by King Samprati, wherein this region through excavation every time they keep finding the idols of Tirthankaras, which were been underground fearing on facing attacks by Mughals who destroyed thousands of temples, but standing tall is one of the Magnificent Delwara temple on my first visit to this village by chance and was enchanted with the magnificent beautiful temple of Shri Adinath Dada, the premier of Tirthankara, and very inquisitee about the looks from inside of temple to same of Mt Abu Delwara temple, on questioning to lot of people why the temple of Mt Abu was called Delwara., and which one is older of it, I have learned this recently about Solanki the rulers of Gujrat had visited Delwara around 11th Century and were very much impressed with the architecture and carving at the Jain temples. At the request of these visiting ministers, then rules of Delwara provided them the design and drawings of the Jain Temples to them. Vimal Shah was the minister and Commander in chief of Bhima Dev I, Vimal Shah was remorseful and spent his rest of life in religious discourse near Abu. He was so much inspired by a Jain Acharya, in repent for wars and bloodshed he decided to construct the replica of Delwara Temple at Mt Abu. The Temple is known as Vimal Vasahi (Shri Adeshwar Temple). Later in 1230AD, the two Porwad brothers – Vastupal and Tejpal, also builded temples designed after Vimal Vasahi near them. Since five Temples, built between 11th and 13th century at ABU, are similar in design & architecture to ones at Delwara (city near Udaipur in Mewar), came to be known as Delwara (Dilwara) Jain Temples. The Grandeur of Sculpted marble, exquisite carvings on ceilings, domes and Pillars are much superior quality then the Temple at Delwara (near Udaipur)

Delwara City was Originally known as “Devkul Patan Nagri” which means Town of God,

Delwara, Nagda, Aayad were the centres of learning & culture between 9th and 15th century. Most princes Mewar were Groomed in art of warfare and Formal Education at Delwara. Hence it is also known as Kunwarpada – centre of Learning. Present Delwara town is not 20% of its original township, and with few Jain Temples left but the Idols in Delwara and around that area in Temples have some Magnetic attractions and seeing Shri Adinath Dada in Delwara ( near Udaipur) has some magic in it, I felt lot of connect.

Its commendable that centuries before how precise they have sculpted on marbles, their Designs, there Architecture, and has stunning intricate patterns which speak of a be spoke workmanship., and so truly I do feel Delwara is Town of God.
